1/05/06 Class Org Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Locomotive, Christian, Cbayracer, Clewless

The team continued to cover the all important sail rules:

Discussion focused on:

  1. Debated sail material weight minimums - jib & main - centered around what wind range to optimize on. For example delivery sails will need to be able to handle/survive almost all regional conditions (i.e. up to 25kts). That means (for example) roughly 7.1oz Dacron, 5.7oz Pentex, 5oz Aramids/Carbon - precise weights still being finetuned. Weights for class sail minimums would be lower than this (e.g. optimized for up to 18kts) to match conditions representing the majority of the sailing done. It's always a compromise between performance & sail life.
  2. Discussed the merits of limitation to construction. Construction options are Crosscut, Paneled, String (in whatever combination) - Sail Poll 3?
  3. Spi material min wts is proposed at 0.75 oz.
  4. Team to investigate largest mainsail roach profile supported by flicker design.

We adjourned after 2 hrs of discussion.

Again, thanks to all attendees for their contributions.
