Rules Team Meeting Minutes - 8/3/06

Minutes Aug 3rd Meeting

Attendees: Mobetter, DMM, Loco, Ziggy (Aus), AkaGP, Clewless

Summary:

1. We first discussed the draft class constitution and how it is difficult for the class to get started (before hulls arrive) due to the language. DMM had a few good suggestions which we discussed. However, the consensus was that the temporary solutions may leave undesireable outcomes i.e. the cure may hurt more than the illness...We decided to try to address it from a different angle. On to the class rules.

2. The latest draft was introduced briefly and the format was explained to the group. The rules as drafted by the team remains intact but the builder's "interim" sail rules were added (refer to section J) as a compromise. This is driven by the need to get IRC & PHRF ratings done. The team looked at several paths to solve the sail debate. Patience is needed here to avoid fragmenting the class before we even get launched. The consensus was to have the class membership continue the effort to drive towards the "long-term solution" so that we can document an "official" proposal for change. We will have much better sail data once the SD boats are sailed -- which will allow us to make better decisions. This way, by early next year, all involved will have better insight to what the longer-term direction may look like. As the membership grows, the sentiment will become much clearer.

We will leverage the membership e-mail list to widen the discussion / improve the information flow. Current proposals & draft rules will be circulated on the list for comments.

Meeting closed after 2.5 hrs

Good discussions -- thanks all for making the effort.
